Why is aluminium so hard to weld?

Although aluminum is a lightweight and robust alloy, it is famously difficult to weld due to a variety of reasons.

 

For starters, aluminum has a low melting point, which allows it to easily flex and deform during the welding process.

 

In addition, aluminum oxide builds quickly on the material's surface, making good bonding problematic.

 

Finally, the metal's high thermal conductivity makes it difficult to keep a constant temperature while welding.

 

Nonetheless, with the proper tools, techniques, and skill, aluminum may be effectively welded, resulting in extremely robust and flexible products.
